Smart home and printers, delivered.
Printers that say they’re offline and smart devices that each need their own app are two of the most common home-tech headaches. I connect them to the right network and the right account, set up the apps, and show you how to do the everyday things. You leave with a list of what’s connected and where.
Who it’s for
Is this you?
This is for people who bought the gear and are stuck on the setup, or who inherited a pile of devices from a previous owner or installer.
- A printer won’t connect, says it’s offline, or prints blanks.
- You have a smart speaker, camera, doorbell, plugs or thermostat and the app setup is a mess.
- Devices stopped working after a router or provider change.
- You want everything tied to your account, not an installer’s.
What a visit covers
What happens when I show up.
Printers
Wireless setup, drivers, printing from your phone and laptop, and scanning to your phone or computer.
Smart speakers and hubs
Setup, naming rooms and devices, and linking your accounts.
Cameras and video doorbells
App setup, notifications, who has access, and privacy options.
Plugs, bulbs and thermostats
Wi‑Fi connections (including gear that only joins 2.4 GHz), schedules and routines.
Accounts you own
Devices tied to your email, not a previous owner’s or an installer’s.
Updates and a device list
Firmware updates and a one-page list of what’s connected and where.
What to have ready
- The printer, with its power cord, and a spare ink or toner cartridge if you have one.
- Boxes or model names for the smart devices, if you still have them.
- The email account you’d like them tied to.
- Your Wi‑Fi name and password, typed by you.
- A short list of what you’d like the devices to do.
Honest limits
- I don’t do electrical work. Hardwired doorbells, switches, thermostat wiring and outdoor lighting are jobs for a licensed electrician.
- I can’t repair printer hardware, such as jams, worn rollers or failed print heads. If replacing it makes more sense, I’ll say so.
- Ink, toner and new devices cost extra, and you choose where to buy them.
- Some older printers and devices can’t join modern networks or accounts, and some brands lock features behind subscriptions.
- I can’t promise two brands will work together. I’ll check compatibility before we try.
If devices keep dropping off, the cause is often the network. See Wi‑Fi and router help.
Questions
Answers before you book.
My printer says offline but it’s on. Now what?
That usually means it dropped off the Wi‑Fi, or the computer is pointed at the wrong address for it. We reconnect it to the right network and add it again. If it keeps dropping, I look at the signal where it sits.
Will a smart device work with my router?
Most do. A few older ones only join the 2.4 GHz band and need a small router setting, and I know what to check.
Is it safe to have cameras in my home?
They can be, if the account has a strong password and two-step verification and only the people you choose have access. We review those settings together. Where a camera sits and what it points at is your call.
Can you mount devices on the wall?
I can set up and connect them. For drilling, mounting or wiring, an installer or electrician is the right person.
